Presidents Message Christmas 2016

Presidents Message Christmas 2016

Dear Members,

Well what a busy few months.

Members of the Executive, Trustees, Mutual Assistance Fund committees and I would like to wish all members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

I would also like to thank you for your support at the AGM and your confidence in the current team by returning the Executive to office unopposed. This indicates to me that we have your support with our current initiatives and the direction that the club is heading. Hopefully over the next two years you will see us continue to reduce the club’s debt and reinvest in upgrading/renovating our facilities as funds permit.

I hope you have noticed the new outdoor furniture and planters in the garden bar. Thank you to our smokers who have graciously moved to the new smoking area on the southern side of the main bar. All we need now is for Summer to arrive so that we can make the most of these improvements.

The new Point of Sale system is now up and running with 4,000 plus members updating their membership cards in the first couple of months. There have been a few teething problems as expected, however feedback from members has been positive.

The club has traded well during the October and November period with maximum registration for the Texas Holdem Poker tournament over Labour Weekend and a very strong turnout for the Melbourne Cup. I would like to thank management and staff for the effort they put in to ensure the success of these two events.

On a more sombre note the club and our investment properties came through the M7.8 Earthquake with only some cosmetic damage, cracked windows, some raised floor tiles and some loose soffit. What really caused some issues for us was the blocked culvert on Udy St which resulted in the Western end of the club being flooded on the Tuesday. A claim is currently with our insurance company. A big thank you to members, management and staff who laid sand bags and manned the mops and squeegees, which certainly limited the extent of the damage.

The club will be busy over the festive season so please be courteous and welcoming to the many visitors we will be hosting.

To our Adjunct members please enjoy your Christmas functions and prizegiving’s. To all members please be mindful of your alcohol consumption over the festive season. Don’t drink and drive, make use of the clubs subsidised Taxi service.

Enjoy the club entertainment and facilities during this period and once again.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
